The other day I was dominating in tetherball against this “Challenged” kid and I thought to myself, “You know what? I’m a pretty nice guy to be out here in the heat like this.”

Then I thought, “Well shit. I do a lot of nice things basically all the time!” It’s true really. I’m like a ray of goddamned sunshine and I’m not even talking about just to “challengeds” or whatever. I’m pretty nice to real people too!

Then I thought, “How is my life not better? Should I move the tetherball pole to the front yard so more attractive women can see the good deed I’m doing?” Then I dared the ”Challenged” kid to chew up the tether ball because I needed some “me time” to think on it.

To say that I connect on all cylinders in every aspect of my life is a gross understatement. I’m a hard worker, a solid citizen, and a social butterfly. But more like a wingless butterfly who has a real, human head instead of that little insect pea-head and who also has shiny, slicked-back hair, wears expensive velvet suits, and does a lot of cocaine.

I’m an alpha male thanks in large to my steadfast belief that men BUT ALSO women have an obligation to lead. I speak incredibly loud and have little tolerance for laziness. If I’m sitting in a restaurant and my order isn’t taken within the first ten minutes, I’ll march right up to the manager and yell at him. If he says something about how at this restaurant you’re supposed to order at the front, I’ll laugh in his teenaged face and tell him what an idiotic idea that is. Then I will say that I have a lot of friends and I will tell all of them not to eat at this “McDougal’s” place and then good luck staying in business after a few months of that. “It’s McDonald’s Sir,” he might say to which I’ll reply that I know how to fucking read. As I drive away from the restaurant, I’ll try to flex my muscles by squeezing the steering wheel in hopes that the other passengers will notice and momentarily cease losing respect for me.

A wise man once said that parties are not parties until I show up. How do I know? Hint: I am that wise man. Though I’m known to cut loose, I seldom relax entirely. My hectic schedule won’t allow for it. When I party, I party. Hard. I simply don’t have time to wait around for formalities like “finding out whose birthday it is” or “realizing that I’m not at the right house.” If I see cake, I’m going to dig in and I’m going to eat as much of it as I can until some guy I’ve never met before, but everyone is calling “Dad,” beats me …

Hours later, I’ll marvel at my perseverance as I demonstrate to a new group of friends this trick where I reach one of my handcuffed palms into my pocket and pull out some of his stash that I put there when “Dad” thought I was knocked out.

My relationships with women aren’t necessarily all about sex. Being the incredibly old-fashioned guy that I am, I enjoy a traditional date.

Assuming a night spent alone in my study drinking and calling ex-girlfriends to tell them about the “new me” until they hang up counts as a date, then yes. I suppose I’m a bit of a man about town. I’m also a religious man and in my opinion, there’s no better place for religion than in the bedroom. Because of this, I choose to let the act of intercourse make me feel incredibly guilty. So ladies, if we do go on a date please forgive me in advance…

While it’s true that I’m a bit of a traditionalist, I’m also not opposed to purposely break tradition. For instance, You go left, I go right. You go up, I go down. You look under the stall door to see if someone is in there, I look over it. And if someone is indeed in there I’ll ask him if he doesn’t mind scooting over a little. Regardless of how I do things, I know that I do them better of most of the assholes I’m surrounded by. Perhaps I don’t deserve the best in life, but I deserve better. At the very least, I deserve to have the people around me feel like they deserve worse. Why? Because I’m a fucking good person. That’s why.

I LOVE YOU,

A few years ago, some friends and I were sitting around watching parts 1 and 2 of “The Godfather”, and one point my friend Jim said, “You know, if I’m really honest with myself, I have to admit that if I was any character in this movie, it’d be Fredo.” The rest of the men in the room took a few moments to consider this, and we all grudgingly admitted to feeling the same way about ourselves.

Unfortunately, I’ve come to believe that the majority of people in America today are much more like Fredo than we’d care to admit. I continually observe behavior that I characterize as “Nation of Fredo” moments. Here’s a perfect illustration from this weekend.

I was in my bank, getting a roll of quarters so I could do laundry. I overheard the man at the next teller window complaining about the new ATMs that had recently been installed. Apparently he found them inconvenient and difficult to operate

“I’m really thinking of switching to Washington Mutual because of this,” he said.

That right there is the essence of a “Nation of Fredo” moment. It’s born of a perfect storm of being forced to acknowledge one’s own weaknesses, and anger at that very weakness, combined with an inappropriate sense of righteous indignation and misdirected hostility.

Because, seriously, what was the teller supposed to do? Call up the Chief of Operations and tell them to come down and rip out the new ATMs and put back the old ones because this guy didn’t like them? And let’s be clear, if he were really going to switch to Washington Mutual, he’d have just done it without saying anything. But switching a bank account takes a lot more time and effort than figuring out an unfamiliar ATM.

Of course, what he really meant was “I want you to placate me, or I’ll go somewhere else and without my precious business this whole bank will shut down and you’ll be out of a job!” But if he’d said that, he’d have sounded like an even bigger jackass and he knew it.

Now, I was aware of all of this at the time. As a member of society, I really should have called this guy on his bullshit. But instead I took my quarters and left without incident. That was my “Nation of Fredo” moment.

I do believe that progress is possible, through awareness. To that end, I offer this short list of indicators. If we all engage in a few moments of self-analysis, perhaps we can reduce the number of “Nation of Fredo” moments that degrade us all as a people.

If you’ve ever told a clerk “I’m taking my business elsewhere,” you’re a Fredo.

If you’ve ever waited for the guy who cut you off on the freeway to take the off-ramp before you gave him the finger, you’re a Fredo.
If you’ve ever tried to seem like a big shot by under-tipping, you’re a Fredo.

If you’ve ever criticized someone for beginning a sentence with a conjunction and you’re not an English teacher, you’re a Fredo.

If you’ve ever challenged someone on the internet to meet you and fight, you’re a Fredo.

If, after sex, you’ve ever asked a girl whether she had an orgasm or not, you’re a Fredo.

If you’ve ever invaded a sovereign nation in a misguided attempt to impress your father, you’re a Fredo.

If you’re reading this right now and thinking “This just like a quiz I once took to see which one of the girls on ‘Sex and the City’ I am,” you’re a Fredo.

If you’re reading this right now and thinking “I’m not a Fredo! I’m totally a Sonny!” Guess what? You’re a Fredo.

If you’re reading this right now and thinking “Now he’s just ripping off Jeff Foxworthy,” you’re a Fredo for knowing Jeff Foxworthy’s routines and being snooty about it.

But all is not hopeless. After all, Fredo was the sweet one, the sensitive one, the kind one. When the time came for him to die, he didn’t cry or shout or try to fight it. He got in the boat and took it like a man. If he’d accepted his weaknesses and learned to deal with them, he might have been all right. And perhaps we as a nation can do the same.

The self-help section of the bookstore is bursting with books on success. All of the self-proclaimed, self-help gurus offer to help you become some sort of enormous triumph. They claim that they can teach you to cope with being a winner. I’m no Tony Robbins but I don’t think people need to be prepared for victory. We dream about it all our lives. Maybe we need to prepare for losing? Any of these gurus who say that, “Failure is not an option,” didn’t see my NCAA Tournament picks. Failure is almost always a very, very viable option.

Everyone remembers the drill. You are ten years old. You’re standing out on the court all by yourself fantasizing about hitting the final free throw to win March Madness. As a little kid I never remember standing at the free throw line imagining missing the last shot in the big game. I never remember even being nervous about all the pressure that you are supposed to feel in this situation. I had ice water flowing through my skinny little veins. I didn’t even get flustered when the first barrage of shots I threw up were total bricks; I would always sink one before it got dark and win the big game. Like every other normal, red-blooded American kid, I also fantasized that after the game I’d do a line of coke off of a cheerleader’s butt, then after a night of drunken revelry, I’d get arrested on a DUI charge….I was an Indiana Pacer… I was preparing myself for success.

If there is a little kid out there who day-dreams about screwing up the big game, a kid who stands at the line and dreams of tanking the final shot, I want to meet him. I wasn’t that original growing up. If there ever was a kid who dreamed about fucking up the final shot, he’s probably a pretty well-adjusted adult by now who has moved on to adult issues while the rest of us still think we have a shot of pitching a no-hitter in the World Series, hitting a hole-in-one at the Masters, or winning the Tour de France.

Everyone can handle success. As much as people think that Britney Spears is a waste of space, could you imagine how fucked up her life would be if she didn’t have a thick pad of American currency to break her falls? Teaching people to fail takes real talent. That’s why I have developed Failure Counseling Strategies. Not only can I help assuage your grief about totally blowing that last shot, I can make all of the losers like me feel better about not even making the team in the first place (What team did Tony Robbins take to the NCAA Championship?). Find comfort in these words of wisdom:

“Hey, at least you tried’a little.”

“You need to make more money? That’s crazy talk, man. You’ll just have to pay more taxes. Have a beer.”

“Fuck it. Just quit. You’ve got nothing to prove.”

“She must be a lesbian if she doesn’t want to go out with you. What other reason could there possibly be?”

“A winner never quits and a quitter can get a partial refund on that gym membership you never use.”

“You gotta die of something. Am I right? Care for a cigarette?”

“Sure, you could stop drinking or you could finally accept yourself for the drunk that you are. Don’t be so judgmental about yourself.”

Believe it or not, there are a lot of advantages to coming in last. For one, it makes it a lot easier to improve yourself the next time around. I mean, if losing is good enough for the Seattle Mariners, it should be good enough for me, right? I wouldn’t want the team to feel uncomfortable because I decided to become some kind of big shot success story. I just want to be, like, you know, one of the guys.

I don’t know about you but I feel better about myself already. I think that I’ll knock off for the rest of the day, hit the free happy hour buffet, and watch Sports Center. The best thing about preparing to fail is that, once you get the hang of it, it’s really easy.

Chad Sowash will be missed be more than just me…. he is a fine man.

He is my friend.

He is being called up for duty in the US army for the second time in less than 3 years.

After September 11th while I was in NYC, Chad was there for me.

In exchange, I can give him my word, as a man, to continually support his visions (as misguided as I think they may me).

Simply, as a brother, I hold nothing but admiration for what he does and will continue to do. And, if you were anywhere near Manhattan on 9/11/2001 then you would too…no matter how you view his beliefs.

Chad and I butt heads. But it is only to make one another BETTER in all aspects of our business and personal lives.

I have worked with him for almost 10 years (on and off in different capacities) I LOVE HIM….and pray for him, his troops and his family.

BUT for those of you who do not TRULY KNOW Chad, you SHOULD know that he has always been there for me as a friend and mentor….just maybe if you are willing and lucky enough, you will reach out to him to begin this relationship too.

When duty calls, we both rise to each others’ challenges… I

LOVE YOU,

More Corporate Career Sites
Satisfy Job Hunters’ Demands

By SARAH E. NEEDLEMAN
February 13, 2008 9:51 a.m.

Companies are making a greater effort to cater to job seekers by improving their recruiting sites, making then easier to navigate and more robust. A new study shows a large majority — 90% — of the most visited company career sites now provide the information job seekers value greatest — plus a simple way to find it.

Potentialpark Communications, a market-research firm based in Stockholm, ranked 102 corporate career portals according to the expectations of more than 1,250 college students, M.B.A.s and recent graduates. Features that respondents say they most want to find easily include detailed company and job profiles, descriptions of ideal candidates, insights into long-term career opportunities and a clearly defined application process.

While the survey was based on input from U.S. students and grads, the top three spots went to European companies. Deutsche Bank landed at No. 1 in the three-year-old study for the second year in a row, followed by ABN AMRO Holding NV in second place and UBS AG in third. Overall, employers that earned the highest marks in this year’s survey are investment-banking, engineering, professional-services and management-consulting firms, Potentialpark reports.

Companies outside the U.S. most likely fared well because they have a greater need to proactively go after potential recruits, says Torgil Lenning, co-founder and chief executive officer of Potentialpark. American students and graduates are less familiar with foreign employers, he notes. “If you’re No. 2 in a market, you have to try harder,” he says.

Regardless of location, top-ranking employers excel in satisfying job hunters’ most basic needs, plus offer distinctive features, the study concludes. What’s more, employers lacking in these areas are now at a disadvantage in drawing young job seekers.

“As someone who grew up with the Internet and started using search engines more than 10 years ago, I want to find what I’m looking for very quickly,” says Benjamin R. Burney, a second-year M.B.A. at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Business. “If it takes too long, it will bug me. It doesn’t put the company in the best light.”

More employers are tailoring their career portals to appeal to recent graduates because they’re highly active and savvy Web users, says Mr. Lenning.

HOW THE TOP 10 FARED

The companies that topped the list overall showed strength in branding and in applicant management. See how they scored in all five categories.

“We’re paying attention to voice of generation X and Y,” says Paul Clegg, director of global talent acquisition at Raytheon Corp., which holds the No. 26 spot in the ranking. “Their values are so different than the boomer generation, and in order to attract and retain them, we’ve got to shift gears.”

Meeting job hunters’ expectations is critical for employers. Company Web sites are the second most common source of new hires, preceded by referrals, according to a survey of 50 U.S. companies with 5,000 employees or more due out later this month from CareerXroads, a staffing-consulting firm.

According to the Potentialpark survey, one way that some employers are distinguishing their career portals is by adding interactive features, such as games, self-assessment quizzes and blogs. Last summer, Lockheed Martin Corp., at No. 8, added a real-time chat service that lets job hunters write to the defense company’s recruiters and get immediate responses. The virtual discussions focus on a variety of subjects and take place about 20 times a month for an hour each.

COMPANIES MOVE TO BOOST TRAFFIC

More employers are enlisting the help of firms that specialize in search-engine optimization to draw more applicants to their sites. These firms study company’s career pages and find ways to increase their exposure on search engines like Google.com.

For example, jobs2web Inc., based in Minneapolis, now has more than 40 clients using its optimization services for their online career portals, up from six a year ago, says founder Doug Berg.

Corporate career sites tend to get little exposure on search engines because many are managed by applicant-tracking programs, says Mr. Berg. These often require users to complete registration forms to access a site’s job listings, a task search engines can’t perform. What’s more, job titles vary from company to company and are often abbreviated on corporate career sites, he adds. As a result, it’s unlikely that a job hunter who searches for a term such as “occupational therapy assistant” will be directed to a job ad with the heading “OCC THER ASST,” he explains.

Getting high rankings on search engines can be challenging for employers given the competition they face from one another as well as job sites such as CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com. According to Google, searches with the word “job” are nearly as popular as ones with “movies” and “sports” in them.

Many employers may also be able to draw traffic to their career sites by investing in pay-per-click advertising on search engines. But jobs that are most in demand could run up costs for employers using this model. By contrast, Mr. Berg says his firm charges a flat annual fee for optimization services based on the volume of job ads a company lists on its career portal.

–Sarah E. Needleman

More employers are also producing videos and podcasts on career topics, the survey shows. But unlike in the past, these are now being tailored to address specific interests and concerns among job hunters. For example, Deutsche Bank’s career site features a podcast of an employee discussing what it’s like for women to work in investment banking. Another gives insight into the role technology plays at the global company.

Microsoft Corp. recently added a comical short to its video library featuring a cowboy singing and playing guitar as he describes the job of a software-design engineer. “Our feeling it doesn’t need to be boring,” says George Meng, director of staffing marketing at Microsoft Corp., which landed at No. 10 in the Potentialpark survey. Other videos follow workers as they perform various tasks, which also give insights into the technology company’s culture. Previously, its career videos were mainly of employees talking directly into the camera about only positive subjects, says Mr. Meng. “We’ve taken a different approach to have a more honest voice so it’s not all sunshine,” he explains. “Some of the [new] videos talk about the challenges employees face.”

For companies that operate around the world, an increasingly popular recruiting strategy is to create distinct Web pages that describe career opportunities in their various offices. For instance, Intel Corp.’s Web site links to information on jobs in more than 46 countries, including the kind of culture each location offers.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the recent enhancements to corporate career sites are helping to attract larger and more qualified applicant pools. Recruiters report an increasing amount of positive feedback from job candidates during interviews. “Candidates are starting to call out our Web content as a factor in their decision to choose Microsoft,” says Mr. Meng.

To be sure, upgrading a company career site can be costly and time consuming, says Potentialpark’s Mr. Lenning. Expenses typically involve technology upgrades, legal inspection, advertising and more. Also, some popular features require regular maintenance. Blogs, for example, need to be kept fresh and engaging for job seekers, and videos depicting jobs may require changes as job functions evolve.

But given the growing importance of these sites, the investment might be worth it, says Mr. Lenning. Today’s job hunters are more Web savvy than ever and they expect employers to meet them on the same level, he explains.

Still, some corporate career sites continue to disappoint job hunters. For example, many that accept uploaded resumes do a poor job of interpreting the information, says Scott Wicke, a second-year M.B.A. at the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. He also recalls visiting one company site that required users to answer 50 questions on a range of topics before they could access any job postings. “It took close to an hour” to complete, he says.

Some employers also have gone overboard with enhancements to their career portals by adding too many graphics and links, notes Matt Dunn, a second-year Harvard Business School student. “Companies have become addicted to technology,” he says. “They’re making their sites even harder to navigate because of all the bells and whistles.”

Goddammit-

The whole landscape has changed since I last took a peek…

1. Somehow after only a few music shows and being too sick to write, a few things have happened that have led me to believe that the “end-times” are upon us. Firstly Dave”Bulldoza” Mendoza was actually responsible, personally, for adding 1000 new member so recruiting blogs…. ok was there a van involved with the words “FREE CANDY” written on the side???

2. Jason Davis actually has SPONSORS for the recruitingblogs.com party in VEGAS!!!! This is AWESOME!!! The Recruit-o-sack has actually come far enough to warrant its own party—let alone people to pay for us to dance the night away…..maybe, just maybe, Animal will make an appearance???

3. Joel writes about everything now??? AND offers REAL ESTATE on the site???? Dude…20 bucks on the corner will only last so long…. I’m an Equal opportunity bastard, and you you know I LOVE YOU, so you better be ready to TAKE IT…. YEP YOU JOEL

4. The Recruiting Animal is running out of interesting people to talk to. Sure he has his stable of “peeps” but his guest list leaves me wanting to punch my sister in the mouth….. I will continue to call in. Right. I will support him. Right. I will kick his guests in the dick (verbally) after I am off the line…… Goddammit —give me someting good, sally.

5. OK…OK…. Looks like we are in fact in a recession. No worries…store up on jerky products and canned goods. This will only last 2 years like last time. For those of you in Canada….remember that us Americans are poor and need your help. Your gambeling and pot-dealing habits will go much further here….and oh yeas…I was just informed that I needed a PASSPORT to see you….f*ckers.

6. In the meantime I will continue on my path of unworthiness… find people work…. find healthy companies find good people… help unhealthy companies build their talent pools…build new technologies… and moreover, plan my wedding….. my spiraling decent into lost hopefulness that …. everything will “turn out right”…

Never Forget… OH there is this bar in Alabama called WORKPLAY—-I Highly suggest that you check it out…

I’ve Been Busy

I LOVE YOU,

According to Richard Florida, this is wrong. Place is not only important, it’s more important than ever.

Standout Jobs Launches RECEPTION(TM), a Self-Serve Web-based Employer Branding and Recruiting Product, at DEMO Conference

PALM DESERT, Calif., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ — Standout Jobs, a startup in the recruiting and online job market space, today launches RECEPTION, a new employer branding and Web-based recruiting product. The launch takes place from DEMO 08, the conference where the newest and best products in digital technology debut.

RECEPTION(TM) is a suite of Web-based tools to power companies’ online recruiting efforts and help them stand out from the crowd. RECEPTION brings the latest Web consumer experiences – easy, personal and dynamic – to the recruiting process. At the heart of RECEPTION is a do-it-yourself interactive career site that leverages social media tools and principles, including video, blogging and widgets, to showcase a company’s culture and team. The goal is to help companies develop and promote their employment brand, in order to find and hire the best talent. RECEPTION also includes candidate relationship management tools enabling HR managers to identify, interact with and track candidates effectively.

RECEPTION includes the following features:

– CUSTOMIZABLE CAREER SITE: A fully customizable career site allowing
companies to modify the colors, layout and look using drag and drop
widgets. These career sites include interactive content such as polls,
Q&A and comments, and employment marketing tools to measure and
administrate candidate visits and applications.

– VIDEO: Companies can seamlessly integrate video into their job
postings and create behind-the-scenes tours, to showcase their culture
and present a more in-depth view of themselves to candidates.

– DYNAMIC CONTENT: Blog postings, employee profiles, photos and more
allow HR managers and employment brand marketers to discuss, interact
and promote hiring content directly with candidate pools. HR managers
can customize and publish content directly to candidates to better
communicate with them.

– BETTER JOB BOARD MARKETING & METRICS: Job posts are automatically
distributed to a multitude of free and paying job boards, saving
companies time. RECEPTION includes metrics on the efficacy of the job
boards, helping companies evaluate and adjust their job board
spending.

– CENTRALLY TRACK AND COLLABORATE ON APPLICANTS: Web-based applications
from candidates can be shared with all the people involved in the
hiring process, allowing for a central tracking of resumes, interview
notes and candidate status. By moving applications out of email and
costly applicant tracking systems, RECEPTION allows companies to
manage their candidate application process more easily and
efficiently. RECEPTION has no seat limits, so entire teams can now be
involved in the hiring process.

– BUILD CANDIDATE PROFILES: RECEPTION bookmarks candidates’ information
into its candidate relationship management application from popular
sites including LinkedIn. Automated searches across the Web help build
detailed profiles on prospective candidates. This will save HR
managers time and effort in sourcing top talent.

– DEVELOP CANDIDATE RELATIONSHIPS: Candidates can track companies’
career sites with newsfeeds, allowing them to receive instant updates
while remaining entirely private. Candidates can selectively disclose
details about themselves as they interact with companies, should they
not be ready to apply immediately. Establishing this relationship
between employer and candidate through RECEPTION ensures that
companies are providing candidates with a positive experience, and
improves companies’ opportunities to market jobs in the future.
“Too many companies’ online career sections are outdated, dull and uninformative. To win the war for talent, companies need to create a great employer brand and turn passive job seekers into active, long-term prospects,” said Benjamin Yoskovitz, chief executive officer and founder of Standout Jobs. “While employers continue to spend billions in advertising on job sites, they are also looking to use the Web more effectively to reach the best candidates and provide high-quality information, interaction and communication.”

Pricing and Availability: RECEPTION is a software-as-a-service solution that can be integrated into existing sites or operated as a stand-alone Web site to power companies’ recruiting efforts. RECEPTION is offered with a 90- day free trial, allowing companies to begin interacting with candidates at no cost. Following the trial period, RECEPTION is available for monthly subscriptions starting at $149/month.

“Standout Jobs’ approach to relationship- based recruiting and their Reception product is the most exciting offering for recruiting that I’ve seen in a really long time,” said Jason Davis, a recruiting industry veteran who sold Recruiting.com to Jobster and now runs RecruitingBlogs.com. “Online recruiting is no longer limited to traditional job sites like Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com. The future of hiring is clearly going to where Reception is positioned.”

“Standout jobs helped us reach an audience of developers with a video campaign that lets us stand out from the crowd and show future employees what we’re all about. We’re excited to be able to modify our career site on the fly with video and other tools and without a major investment of time and money,” said Robert Dempsey, founder and project director at Atlantic Dominion Solutions. (For additional comment, contact rdempsey@techcfl.com.)

Standout Jobs is launching with more than 20 customers representing some of North America’s most exciting companies, including b5media, Freshbooks, Jangl, Mobivox, Socialight, and Xobni.

Chris Shipley, executive producer of the DEMO conferences, said, “In the competitive marketplace for talent, companies are looking for new ways to attract great people. Standout Jobs has a powerful vision for improving the job market, and a product capable of delivering the goods. RECEPTION will have a significant impact on the marketplace in the coming year.”

Standout Jobs also announced that it has secured funding from iNovia Capital and a group of private angel investors. The funds will be used for product development and marketing.

To view Standout Jobs’ DEMO presentation live, go to www.demo.com at 9:44 AM (PST) on January 30.

About Standout Jobs, Inc.

Standout Jobs is a startup providing web-based tools to help companies recruit great candidates more effectively. Standout Jobs’ RECEPTION product is a suite of web-based tools to power companies’ online recruiting efforts and help them stand out from the crowd. The company was started by Benjamin Yoskovitz, Fred Ngo and Austin Hill in February 2007. Standout Jobs is based in Montreal, Canada.

Standout Jobs was founded when Ben Yoskovitz and Fred Ngo, two Montreal- based entrepreneurs frustrated with finding good startup employment opportunities, met Canadian entrepreneur and angel investor Austin Hill, who was frustrated with how difficult it was to market startup jobs to potential candidates. After meeting at the local Montreal technology community meetup BarCamp, they quickly decided to rectify the problem and began developing RECEPTION. With initial seed funding from Austin Hill and other private angel investors, the company was started in February 2007 and received additional funding from venture capital fund iNovia Capital.
About the DEMO Conferences

The DEMO conferences have earned their reputation for consistently identifying tomorrow’s cutting-edge technologies, and have served as launch pad events for companies such as Palm, E*Trade, Handspring, and U.S. Robotics, helping them to secure venture funding, establish critical business relationships, and influence early adopters. Each DEMO conference features approximately 70 new companies, products and technologies. For more information on the DEMO conferences, visit http://www.demo.com/.

Indeedy…no sooner I put up this posting about Marc that I am reminded of another bastion of truth.

Many people discount him as a bastard (as they do me) but, he is a fine soul singer from South Fallsburg, New York.

Teenie-boppers scream for him… however, I know him as a dusty-bar piano bar jockey on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

His Name is Gavin DeGraw. He and his older brother just opened up a bar on the Lower East Side of Manhattan called “The National Underground”…go and see it.

It is apparently worth the drive…

The National Underground, 195 E. Houston St., NYC — Just when you thought you couldn’t get enough of South Fallsburg natives Joey and Gavin DeGraw, the musician brothers go and open up their very own roots/rock/Americana bar. The two-floor venue opened the weekend before Christmas, and opening weekend celebs included Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors and billionaire Revlon Chairman Ron Perelman, while the stage hosted Lucky Petersen, Andy Clayburn and, of course, Gavin. The joint is open seven days a week and features live entertainment every night.

I LOVE YOU,
